I enjoy a challenge. No one would take on this project, I’m a sucker for family heirlooms. The customer’s Dad drove it from new to about 250, 000 miles in 2007. That makes it a good car. Or it was, when I’m done home-brewing the bottom 8 inches of it it will be a good(ish) car once again. A well cared for 318 should do two trips to the moon easily. Last pic is of a puddle of lead I melted out of the dog leg.

Anyone know what it is? (easy one)

Looks like a Dart or Coronet. Dart, I’m thinking.

I’m going to say it’s a early 60's Polara or 330.

Though I’m cheating some giving my dad has a 1964 Dodge 330 Police Car with the same push button transmission and a 318 V8 (god that thing is slow).

Yeah the thing is crazy perfect, he’s won an alarming amount of car show trophies with it.

He’s pretty nuts about things being perfect. It has all the original lights, radios and sirens in it. All functional, even the radio (no traffic on those channels anymore though). It actually has more siren sounds than my sisters current Dodge Charger she has at her Sheriff’s Department.

And the cool dashboard push button trans. A couple more shots for you:

That’s goddamn glorious, have you seen jay leno’s bit on the 61 polara cop car? crazy hard to find the cop parts, especially mopar.

That’s a ‘64 Plymouth. Probably a Belvedere as there are some remains in the paint work that matches the size of the Belvedere emblem.

When I was trying to buy my first car I was looking for a ‘64 Dodge or Plymouth. There were some 4d sedans for sale in a price range that was suitable for me. ‘63 models had nearly identical body but I didn’t like their front ends so much. Eventually I bought a ‘63 Chrysler that a friend of a friend was selling.

Slightly related story. Around 10 years ago I saw one that ‘64 Dodge in a local car gathering. It was a former cop car but there was very little left from the cop equipment. The owner had just imported it from the US to Finland. But what was interesting was the fact that it had the original 273 cid engine and it had covered over 700,000 kilometers (the gauge was of course in imperial units). And it didn’t look bad at all just a bit worn.

I guess the owner had some service documentation about it as the odometer shouldn’t have enough numbers to show that kind of numbers. The owner thought that engine was probably rebuilt couple of times.

you spotted it! interestingly the right side quarter is sectioned in right through the middle of the belvedere emblem on the back. good work back there, nasty work elsewhere.

Some some old rust/accident damage has been covered with bondo? The area between the door and wheel arch looks slightly challenging shape to fabicate.

Currently I’m not very big fan of automatic gearboxes but I sure do miss the push button shifter...

Yeah. We have a hoarding competition with Sweden. I think that Sweden is leading but only slightly.

Yep, I shared it with my dad actually haha.

We’re both fans of oddball cars, we like having something different.

When he was shopping for a classic his list was basically: Police Car, Fire Truck, Ambulance or Hearse. I found him a Fire Truck at one point but he said it was too big, I of course responded with why would it be on your list then don’t you know how big fire trucks are?! Anyhow this car was a rotted out hulk when he first got it. It’s PERFECT now. He was invited to the center field of the Hilton Head Island Concours D’elegance last year.

this is the biggest single piece of bondo I’ve ever ripped off a car with my bare hands. should make a post/contest out of this.

Oh! That’s nasty.

I might be a candidate for quite high position in that competition. I once pulled out a very big glass fiber patch out from the driver’s footwell under the pedal from my “rust free” Opel Rekord. Too bad I didn’t have a camera with me at that time. After removing it I could see half of the front left tire from the driver’s seat.

I wasn’t very keen to fix the car but the next owner (a very pretty girl who liked old Opel’s) just drove it away with the exposed front tire.
